Saarbrücken´s neo-Gothic city hall was designed by Georg J. von Hauberisser, the architect who was also responsible for the construction of the city halls in Munich and Wiesbaden. Dominated by a tower which measures 54 metres in height, Saarbrücken´s Rathaus St. Johann was built between 1897 and 1900. The building´s ornate façade, which has been authentically preserved, is adorned with sandstone figures that represent various trades of the past. Amongst others, you can find the statues of a miner, a smelter, a farmer, a brewer, a merchant, and a tanner. Saarbrücken´s city hall was complemented by several annexes in the years 1922, 1935, and 1996
