The Old Abbey in Mettlach, completed in the middle of the 18th century, traces back to a Benedictine monastery. Today, the building complex is the corporate center of the ceramic manufacturer Villeroy & Boch. Company founder Jean François Boch had bought the Old Abbey in 1809, converted it into a factory, and used parts as a family home and for administration.

Today the main administration of Villeroy & Boch is housed in the Old Abbey, with about 250 employees working there. The Villeroy & Boch adventure center is also located on the site, with the Keravision, the tableware discovery centre, the Mettlach ceramics museum with the well-known museum café, as well as the bathroom and wellness information center, showing the current Villeroy & Boch baths. In the park of the Old Abbey is also the Old Tower, the oldest monument of the Saarland, and further sights.
