Wilhelm-Meyer-Bridge

pictures

description

brief description:

pedestrian crossing built in 2010 which connects the two streets Wilhelm-Meyer-Straße and Leipziger Straße in the Malstatt quarter of Saarbrücken. In the centre of this steel cable-stayed bridge is a two-pronged pylon from which the cables are fanning out. The bridge is 67 metres long and spans over nine tracks belonging to the Deutsche Bahn (German national railway). As far as possible, the construction made use of parts of the abutments from an old pedestrian bridge, destroyed during World War II. On either side of the bridge, a handicap accessible ramp (2,60 metres wide) has been installed. The construction is widest at its centre point (3,50 metres). The Wilhelm-Meyer-Bridge is easily accessible for pedestrians, cyclists, wheelchairs, disabled persons, seniors and children.
