brief description:
the former coal mine started operations in 1963. At the time, it was the most modern coal mine in the world. Shut down in 2005, it is today under preservation order. Reinforced concrete head frame, magazine building, wash and change house with corridor leading to the colliery surface, electrical switchgear building. The terrain comprises approximately 200.000 m².

coming on the A620 motorway Saarbrücken-Merzig, take the exit Völklingen (no. 9) and continue in the direction of Fürstenhausen. Take the Freiherr-von-Stein-Straße to Geislautern, where the street changes its name to Hallerstraße. Turn left onto Ludweiler Straße and continue in the direction of Ludweiler. Turn left onto Rotweg (L164), then follow the L278 in the direction of Dorf im Warndt. Pass through the small town of Dorf im Warndt, following the main road (Ziegeleistraße). At the town exit, take the L276 to the left, direction Karlsbrunn. Immediately before entering the town of Karlsbrunn, turn right onto the former mining compound.
