brief description: 

for years, the American minimalist sculptor Richard Serra has relied on the sheet metal and the know-how of the German steel supplier Dillinger Hütte to produce his large-scale works, which have been set up and exhibited around the world. As a result of this close and trustful collaboration, Dillinger Hütte was able to win Richard Serra to design a sculpture for the Saarland-based steel corporation. In 2006, Dillinger Hütte in turn offered this same sculpture as a gift to Dillingen, marking the long association and strong ties between the company and the town. Serra's sculpture, which he designed for a specific roundabout in Dillingen, was named Viewpoint. It is composed of two 2 elements that are inclined towards each other, each consisting of 3 metal sheets which measure 9 metres in length. This corresponds to the height of the finished sculpture, which is 13 metres wide and weighs 104 tons. Following the artist's drawings, the sheet metal was first brought into shape at Dillinger Hütte by means of a 2.500 ton press, then cut to measure. coming from Saarbrücken, take the urban motorway (A620) going in the direction of Luxembourg/Saarlouis. After approx. 25 km, at the Autobahndreieck Saarlouis interchange, get on the A8 going in the direction of Karlsruhe/Koblenz/Trier/Neunkirchen/Dillingen Süd/Hafen. After approx. 1,7 km, take the Dillingen-Süd exit (no. 10) and continue on the B51 federal highway going in the direction of Dillingen/Saarlouis-Roden. After approx. 300 m, turn right onto the B51, also called Lorisstraße and follow the signs indicating B51/Trier/Merzig/Dillingen/Hafen. After approx. 1,3 km, you will have reached the roundabout with the Richard Serra steel sculpture
